SEDA Holds Pet Food Drive - SEDA New Homes

SEDA Holds Pet Food Drive

Posted on 2.12.2022

SEDA New Homes has partnered with the Jacksonville Humane Society to lend a paw to our furry friends in need during this Christmas season by holding a Pet Food Drive at their model centers from November 30th to December 19th.

Today’s economy has been difficult for many pet owners. Unfortunately, this means owners are surrendering their pets because they say they can no longer afford the upkeep of their animals with increased rent, gas, and food costs. The escalation in returns has put a strain on local animal shelters struggling to keep up. It has become such an issue that the Jacksonville city shelter leaders put a temporary pause on all walk-in and unscheduled visits to allow staff more time to identify and prepare in the assistance of relocating these pets.

This isn’t just a problem in our community but nationwide. The Shelter Animal Counts database shows that the population of cats and dogs in shelters rose by 9.5% from April 2021 to April 2022. We see this to be true in our own animal shelter here in Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Humane Society reported 7,688 animals were brought to them from January 2022 to June 2002 alone.

How can you help? Below are the items requested by the Jacksonville Humane Society:

  • Dry/wet dog food
  • Dry/wet cat food
  • Soft dog treats
  • New leashes (non-retractable)
  • Paper towels
  • Pillowcases
  • Towels
  • Blankets (without stuffing)
  • Gently used pet supplies

Where to drop donations off? Stop by any of our model homes with your donation and register for a chance to win a $500 GIFT CARD. The drawing will be held on December 20th.

If you or someone you know is struggling to take care of their pets, please consider using the resources offered by the Jacksonville Humane Society. They provide pet food assistance, low-cost veterinary services, spay/neuter assistance, emergency boarding, etc.

If you or someone you know can no longer maintain a stable environment for their pet, The Jacksonville Humane Society recommends trying to rehome your pet before surrendering it to an animal shelter.  The Jacksonville Humane Society will help you in this process and will post your pet on their website when you create a profile on Rehome.AdoptPet.com.
